Another Hiero video game track I produced for the Marvel vs Capcom 2 mix tape featuring Tajai, Casual and Pep Love. When I made this beat I had recently got a Symphonic Orchestra music program and was heavy on Timpani Drums which became the basis of the track. When I saved the track, I only had a drum loop, the Timpani’s and a crazy flute tuned down, which is the sound that comes in at the start of Tajai’s verse.
A year or so past and when I got hit up to make a song for MVC2 that related to fighting, I instantly thought of Timpani’s and that track. I added a dark spacy synth sound to give it a more video game futuristic sound and offset the rawness of the drums. When the vocals were recorded and I listened back a few times, for some reason, I kept envisioning the scene from Enter the Dragon when they first arrive at Han’s Island. The scene where all the fighters are warming up in the court yard…..Huah, ha, huah, ha, huah, ha…. I then went on youtube and found some random Karate class clip and sampled it right out of my computer. I chopped up the parts I liked, particularly the best “huuah”. Put them throughout the song on the one (thanks James B) for emphasis and put a longer more active clip under Tajai in the hooks and the bridge before Peps verse.
With this one, I aimed for it to be a film score style of track and I think I succeeded. It is another case of making the track match the theme of the song.
